What to Pack for Plastic Surgery in Colombia

Bottom line up front: Pack light, pack smart. You need comfortable front-opening clothing, essential documents, your prescribed medications, and entertainment for recovery days. Almost everything else — compression garments, recovery supplies, toiletries, medications — is cheaper and easily available in Colombia. Do not overpack; you will be limited in mobility after surgery.

Essentials to Bring

Clothing

Button-down or zip-front shirts (you cannot lift arms over your head post-surgery). Loose, elastic-waist pants or shorts. Slip-on shoes (bending to tie laces is difficult or impossible). A lightweight robe or caftan for recovery house wear. One comfortable outfit for the flight home (stretchy, non-restrictive).

Documents

Passport (valid 6+ months). Printed medical records and lab results. Surgeon's contact information and clinic address (printed, not just on phone). Travel insurance policy documents. Emergency contact information.

Medications

Any current prescription medications in original containers. Stool softener (post-surgical pain medication causes constipation — start taking it early). Arnica tablets or cream (may help with bruising — start before surgery if your surgeon approves).

Recovery Comfort

Neck pillow (for sleeping elevated and for the flight). Entertainment (tablet, Kindle, downloaded shows — you will have days of limited activity). Phone charger and portable battery. Headphones.

What to Buy in Colombia

Compression garments (fajas): Colombia manufactures some of the best post-surgical compression garments in the world. Brands like Salome, Ann Chery, and Fajas D'Prada are available at shops near every cosmetic surgery clinic for $30–$80 — significantly less than ordering from the US. Your surgeon or recovery house will help you find the right fit.

Medications: Pharmacies (droguerías) are everywhere and most medications are available without a prescription at very low cost. Your surgeon will provide prescriptions for post-operative medications.

Toiletries and sunscreen: All available locally. No need to pack full-size bottles.

SIM card: Buy at the airport for $5–$10. 10GB data keeps you connected via WhatsApp with your clinic and family.

💡 Packing Pro Tip

Pack a small carry-on for your first 48 hours in case checked luggage is delayed. Include your medications, documents, one change of comfortable clothes, phone charger, and neck pillow. Everything else can wait.
